Jak dbać o matchę, aby zachowała świeżość i smak

How to care for matcha to keep it fresh and tasty

Matcha is a unique green tea powder—delicate, rich in antioxidants and natural energy. But to maintain its intense color, flavor, and health benefits, it requires proper care.

Here are the most important rules for storing matcha:

1. Keep matcha in an airtight container

Once opened, matcha begins to oxidize, which can lead to a loss of color, flavor, and nutritional value. Store it in its original, resealable tin or dark glass jar. Be sure to remove any excess air before sealing.

2. Avoid heat and sunlight

Matcha doesn't like high temperatures or direct sunlight. Keep it away from ovens, radiators, and windows. It's best to store it in a cool, dark cupboard.

3. Can you keep matcha in the fridge?

Yes—but only if it's well-sealed. Matcha readily absorbs moisture and odors from its surroundings. If you want to store it in the refrigerator, use an airtight container and let it warm to room temperature before opening—otherwise, condensation may form inside the package.

4. Use a dry spoon and avoid steam

Never scoop matcha with a wet spoon or open it over steaming water. Even a drop of moisture can disrupt the powder's structure and affect its quality.

5. Use within 1-2 months of opening

While unopened matcha can last up to a year, once opened it is best used within 30–60 days when it has the most flavor, color, and properties.

6. How to recognize fresh matcha?

Fresh matcha should be:

  • intensely green,

  • delicately scented,

  • slightly sweet and without bitterness.

If it starts to smell “papery”, becomes dull or very bitter – it has probably lost its freshness.

🌿 Summary

Proper care for matcha ensures that each cup retains its strength, flavor, and quality. It's not just tea—it's a ritual worthy of your attention.

So remember: store it tightly, away from light and moisture, and your matcha will reward you with flavor and energy in every serving.
